The Faculties within the University of Niš organize academic and professional studies based on approved and accredited higher education study programs. Academic study program gives students the opportunity to develop and apply their scientific, professional and artistic achievements, while professional study program enables them to apply the knowledge and skills necessary for later work.

The academic studies are organized and taught as:

1) FIRST DEGREE ACADEMIC STUDIES - basic academic studies lasting three to four years and granting, upon their completion, 180 to 240 ECTS points. The student who completes basic academic studies shall acquire the professional title of Bachelor in the corresponding field.

2) SECOND DEGREE ACADEMIC STUDIES -
a) master academic studies lasting one to two years and granting, upon their completion, 60 to 120 ECTS points. The student who completes master academic studies shall acquire the academic title of Master in the corresponding field.

b) specialist academic studies lasting at least one year and granting, upon their completion, at least 60 ECTS points. The student who completes the specialized academic studies shall acquire the professional title of Specialist in the corresponding field.

3) THIRD DEGREE ACADEMIC STUDIES - doctoral academic studies lasting at least three years and granting, upon their completion, at least 180 ECTS points. The student who completes the doctoral academic studies of the third degree shall acquire the scientific title Doctor of Philosophy in the corresponding field.

Academic study programs in medical sciences (which last six years) may have integrated basic and master academic studies so as to provide 360 ECTS points upon their completion.

The professional  studies are organized and taught as:

1) FIRST DEGREE - basic professional studies lasting three years and granting, upon their completion, 180 ECTS points;
2) SECOND DEGREE - specialist professional studies lasting at least one year and granting, upon their completion, at least 60 ECTS.


Language of Studies

All the faculties organize studies in the Serbian language. Therefore, international applicants have to demonstrate competence in the Serbian language by a relevant document.
Certain accredited study programmes in English are available at the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Some courses of study programmes accredited only in Serbian can also be conducted in English and are marked with "(ENG)" and flag eng flag courses in Course catalogue. These courses can be particularly interesting for exchange students.

Taking Exams

The exam schedules for each of the final examination periods are posted on individual faculty noticeboards and sites. In order to take an exam, students must sign up for it several days in advance, either on-line or by filling in a paper form. More precise information can be obtained at each faculty or department.


Grading system

In institutions of higher education in Serbia, a 5−10 grading scale is used (5 is a failing whereas 6−10 are passing grades, 6 being the lowest and 10 the highest passing grade).
