Swedish Institute Scholarships for the Western Balkans and Turkey

For Master's Studies in Sweden 2019/2020 

The Swedish-Turkish Scholarship Programme and SI Scholarships for the Western Balkans/offer highly qualified professionals a unique opportunity to pursue a full-time one- or two-year master’s degree in Sweden.

A total of about 20 scholarships will be offered for citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia (FYROM), Montenegro, Serbia or Turkey. Scholarships will be available for studies at around 60 eligible master’s programmes within the field of social sciences, starting in the autumn semester 2019.

Application period

The SI scholarship application period is between 4 February 2019 and 14 February 2019.

Who we are looking for

The Swedish-Turkish Scholarship Programme and SI Scholarships for the Western Balkans are part of the Swedish government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. The programmes are funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden and administrated in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Thematically, the programmes focus on the following Sustainable Development Goals:

Goal 10: Reduced inequalities <https://app.rule.io/link/nl/n_134dwd/a/n_v6/d/n_315i/di/n_rt/s/n_ih95n/e/n_hobu1>
Goal 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions. <https://app.rule.io/link/nl/n_134dwe/a/n_v6/d/n_315i/di/n_rt/s/n_ih95n/e/n_hobu1>

Eligible applicants are professionals with thematically relevant work and leadership experience and ambition to work with civil society organisations. Ideal candidates have a clear idea of how a study programme in Sweden would benefit their country.

Scholarship benefits

The scholarship covers both tuition fees and living expenses to the amount of SEK 10,000 per month. It also includes a travel grant of SEK 5,000 and insurance. The scholarship does not cover additional grants for family members or application fee to University Admissions.

To help prepare for the role of a global global leader and change-maker, all SI scholarship holders become members of the SI Network for Future Global Leaders (NFGL) <https://app.rule.io/link/nl/n_134dwf/a/n_v6/d/n_315i/di/n_rt/s/n_ih95n/e/n_hobu1>. Together with other talented people from all around the world, members take part in a variety of events, exchange ideas and create networks beneficial both to career and personal development.

After the scholarship period, the scholarship holders also become part of the SI Alumni Network <https://app.rule.io/link/nl/n_134dwg/a/n_v6/d/n_315i/di/n_rt/s/n_ih95n/e/n_hobu1> which provides a platform for further professional development and to stay in touch with Sweden and with each other.
