serbian literature in kosovo and metohia
Author: Sunčica Denić

Publisher: Lambert

About this book

The theme of exile and lost homeland appears as the theme of economical, social, political, cultural and emotional drama. It also appears as the documentary reality of Kosovo and Metohia, both at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, and as the theme of great suffering in the 20th and the beginning of the 21st centuries. With some exceptions, this literature is related to the being of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohia, to everything that makes up tradition and heritage and to what we may call the poetic phenomenon and motif of the present time: persecution as doom and destiny.

The monograph by Sunčica Denić about the Serbian literature of Kosovo and Metohia, about persecution and homeland, as well as about genre unity establishes the author as a competent interpreter who evaluates this literature and positions it within the literature of the mother country, pointing to its specificity and its characteristic aesthetic categories and values.

 About Author

Sunčica Denić was born in Ugljare near Priština. She works as a full-time professor at the Pedagogical Faculty in Vranje, the University of Niš. She writes poetry, prose, literary reviews and essays. She is the
member of the Association of the Writers of Serbia, the Serbian Literary Society, the Board for Kosovo and Metohia within Matica Srpska.

About this book

This book provides insight into the significant area of public art and memorials in Berlin. Through diverse selected examples, grouped according to their basic character and significance, the most important art projects produced in the period since World War II are presented and discussed. Both as a critical theoretical work and rich photo book, this volume is a unique selection of Berlin’s diverse visual elements, contemporary and from the recent past. Some artworks are very famous and are already symbols of Berlin while others are less well known. Public Art and Urban Memorials in Berlin analyzes the connections created by public art on one hand, and urban space and architectural forms on the other.

This volume considers the Berlin works of iconic artists such as Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Daniel Libeskind, Dani Karavan, Bernar Venet, Keith Haring, Christian Boltanski, Richard Serra, Peter Eisenman, Henry Moore, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Brüggen, Wolf Vostell, Gerhard Richter, Eduardo Chillida, Jonathan Borofsky, Olaf Metzel, Sol LeWitt, Frank Gehry, Max Lingner, Bernhard Heiliger, Frank Thiel, Juan Garaizabal and more.

The reader is led through seven chapters: Creative City Berlin, Introduction to Public Art, Public Art in Berlin, the Celebration of Berlin’s 750th Anniversary in 1987, Temporary public art, Socialist Realism in Art, and Urban Memorials. The chapter Public Art in Berlin discusses selected projects, Bundestag Public Art Collection, Public Art at Potsdamer Platz and The City and the river – a renewed relationship. The chapter on urban memorials discusses: Remembering the Divided City and Holocaust Memorials in Berlin.

The book delivers nine interviews with artists whose Berlin work is revealed through this volume (Bernar Venet, Hubertus von der Goltz, Dani Karavan, Juan Garaizabal, Susanne Lorenz, Kalliopi Lemos, Frank Thiel, Karla Sachse and Nikolaus Koliusis).

About this book

Automata Theory is an exciting, theoretical branch of computer science. Automata theory deals with the logic of computation with respect to simple machines, referred to as automata. Automata are abstract models of machines that perform computations on an input by moving through a series of states or configurations. An automaton is a mathematical object that takes a word as input and decides either to accept it or reject it. Genetic algorithms are a family of algorithms that use some kind of gene-tic principles that are present in nature, in order to solve specific computational problems. GA have proved very powerful and also very general tool for solving problems in the field of learning in neural networks, in finding the shortest path, the traveling salesman problem, in strategy games, the problem of the deployment process, the problem of determining the parameters of the system, the optimization of queries on the database. One interesting, relatively new area of application of genetic algorithms is the theory of automata.

About this book

Approximation theory and numerical analysis are central to the creation of accurate computer simulations and mathematical models. Research in these areas can influence the computational techniques used in a variety of mathematical and computational sciences. This collection of contributed chapters, dedicated to the renowned mathematician Gradimir V. Milovanović, represent the recent work of experts in the fields of approximation theory and numerical analysis. These invited contributions describe new trends in these important areas of research including theoretic developments, new computational algorithms, and multidisciplinary applications.

Special features of this volume: - Presents results and approximation methods in various computational settings including polynomial and orthogonal systems, analytic functions, and differential equations. - Provides a historical overview of approximation theory and many of its subdisciplines. - Contains new results from diverse areas of research spanning mathematics, engineering, and the computational sciences. "Approximation and Computation" is intended for mathematicians and researchers focusing on approximation theory and numerical analysis, but can also be a valuable resource to students and researchers in engineering and other computational and applied sciences.

Publisher: Springer

ISBN 978-3-540-68349-0

About this book

The classical books on interpolation address numerous negative results, i.e., results on divergent interpolation processes, usually constructed over some equidistant systems of nodes. The authors present, with complete proofs, recent results on convergent interpolation processes, for trigonometric and algebraic polynomials of one real variable, not yet published in other textbooks and monographs on approximation theory and numerical mathematics. In this special, but fundamental and important field of real analysis the authors present the state of art.

Some 500 references are cited, including many new results of the authors. Basic tools in this field (orthogonal polynomials, moduli of smoothness, K-functionals, etc.) as well as some selected applications in numerical integration, integral equations, moment-preserving approximation and summation of slowly convergent series are also given. Beside the basic properties of the classical orthogonal polynomials the book provides new results on nonclassical orthogonal polynomials including methods for their numerical construction.

About this book

This book focusses on the theory and application of ‘time perspective theory’. Time perspective can be an important factor in determining psychological well-being and the way we see our world and others around us.

The unique contemporary nature of this theory’s evolution has spurred great interest over the last 20 years. The editors responded to this interest by bringing together contributors across a multitude of subjects and perspectives to facilitate an unprecedented discussion on the topic; covering areas such as financial health, psychotherapy across adulthood and old age, prenatal past, metacognition, community and change, fear of crime and intrinsic motivations. The interdisciplinary nature of this project makes it of interest to a wide cross-section of academics and practitioners including psychologist, social workers, criminologists and anyone who has or wishes to adopted time perspective theorization to assist them in their understanding.

Description

This book addresses selected topics in the theory of generalized inverses. Following a discussion of the “reverse order law” problem and certain problems involving completions of operator matrices, it subsequently presents a specific approach to solving the problem of the reverse order law for {1} -generalized inverses.

Particular emphasis is placed on the existence of Drazin invertible completions of an upper triangular operator matrix; on the invertibility and different types of generalized invertibility of a linear combination of operators on Hilbert spaces and Banach algebra elements; on the problem of finding representations of the Drazin inverse of a 2x2 block matrix; and on selected additive results and algebraic properties for the Drazin inverse.

In addition to the clarity of its content, the book discusses the relevant open problems for each topic discussed. Comments on the latest references on generalized inverses are also included. Accordingly, the book will be useful for graduate students, PhD students and researchers, but also for a broader readership interested in these topics.
